Michael Joseph Sabato, Sr. (b. 1929 – d. 2017) was born in Philadelphia, PA, attended
South Philadelphia High School, later moving on to play semi-pro football with “Emanon” until 1955.
Michael married Gloria Fazio in 1950. Their 67-year collaboration resulted in their 7 children,
12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and counting. Mike and Gloria raised their family
in Berlin, NJ where Mike owned a Flying A gas station for a few years, earned his private pilot's license, served for thirty years on the Borough Planning Board and ran his own insurance and tax business
Michael Sr.'s unwavering love of family and community was always informed by his unwavering belief in God. Mike Sabato's grounded sense of right and wrong made him, at times, a contentious adversary, but always a steadfast friend.
His family and friends will miss the master of wisdom laced one-liners. His children especially will miss the man who taught them to play chess, choose good cars, good bourbon and good spouses
(not especially in that order). When they did not heed, he was nonetheless always there to help them keep their lives together - never saying "I told you so". If God is half the father to Mike as Mike was
to his own children, then Michael Sr. rests today and always in God's good company.
