Obituary of Thomas Dunleavy

Age 88, of Berlin, passed away on April 8, 2018. Loving husband of Christine Dunleavy. Devoted father of Catherine Shoff (Eamon), Elisa Vitarelli (Jared Heckler), Elizabeth Shanosk (David) and AnneMarie Calabrese (Gregory). Dear brother of Edward Dunleavy, Brian Dunleavy, James Dunleavy (Ruth) and the late Martin Dunleavy. Cherished Grandfather to Alexandra, Nicholas, Madeline, Ryan, Matthew, Joshua, Abigail and Juliana.

A man of faith who served the Lord as a religious educator for children and adults, along with being a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Marriage Encounter Leader. He was a proud native of Chicago with a love of American history. He received a Master’s Degree at the University of Notre Dame. At the age of 75 he received his second Master’s Degree at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. He inspired others as a History and Latin teacher, as well as when he served 24 years as a federal government employee launching such programs as VISTA, the Foster Grandparents Program and other volunteer community programs in the Pennsylvania and New York area. He loved to read and watch the Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame football games with his family. He was an honorable, compassionate, wise, humble man who shined on earth and is shining down on us from heaven.
