On January 11, 2018, James Calista, of Mays Landing, NJ and previously from Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, NJ. He was 85 years young. Jim was born in West Chester, PA and was a graduate of St. Agnes High School, Class of ‘49, where he was class president and valedictorian. Jim served in the Korean War as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for his service as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. After returning home, he received his degree from RIT. Jim worked for W.B. Saunders medical book publishing company as the Cherry Hill printing plant manager for 30 years. He was an active member of the Philadelphia Book Club and past-president of the Philadelphia Craftsman’s Club. Later in his career, Jim managed the in-house printing department for The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. A dedicated coach for youth athletics in Cherry Hill, he was instrumental in starting the St. Pius X basketball league. As an avid Philadelphia sports fan, he had a lifelong passion for running and fitness and could be found at his health club working out several times a week until recently. His happiest days were spent at the Jersey shore with his grandchildren.
